If you want to reap a harvest

Posted by Tim :: Ministry News

On Monday 7/19, we held an outdoor BBQ for our regular SALT dinner in Chicago. We didn't want to really. A group with a prior commitment was using the Agape House, so we were left trying to find an alternate place to meet and eat. Well, since Autumn was busy on that Monday as well, I just volunteered to have Tom Biang and I do an outdoor BBQ.
So, there we were putting up our grill and chairs and setting out the food, when on a whim I decided to write on a huge white board that I brought for a seminar I was doing later on that night, "Free BBQ! Why? Because we can."
It wasn't but a few minutes afterwards that people started stopping: Tiff who was convinced we did this for her birthday, Zach who missed his bus 8 times in order to hang with us, and several SALTers brought friends to join us as well.
This unplanned BBQ turned out to be the most successfully attended activity did all summer. In fact, I did my seminar right next to the BBQ, which was a complete rendering of the gospel (known by many as the Outreach diagram). While drawing out the diagram, two Muslim men joined us and stayed for almost the entire thing. Afterward, they talked with us about Christ and the gospel for several hours!
It was an amazing night. As I looked back on it all, one thought kept popping into my mind, "If you want to reap a harvest, you've got to go to where the fruit is."

Notice how he said he volunteered me for the BBQ. I wasn't asked to help, I was informed that I would.

I just knew you would say yes, Tom. You are a well trained patawan learner.
